A lot of dentists think the practice belongs to them (and it does, to some degree). However, it’s not just their practice. It belongs to the patients and everyone who works there!
A successful practice is less about what YOU want and more about what THEY want.
Think back to the last encounter you had with a patient. You told them what they needed, then sent them on their way. How about this: instead of telling a patient what they need, try finding out what matters to them the most. You could say . . .
“What brings you in today?”
“Tell me what’s bothering you.”
“What else can we do to serve you?”
The same goes for your team. Find out what they want, need and value. That could be a raise in salary, more recognition or additional vacation time. You won’t know until you ask!
Whether it’s a patient or team member, always lead with THEIR desires. This shows that you’re listening, and you want to make people happy!
