Ideas are like popcorn kernels. There’s a lot of them, and once they start popping, it’s hard to pick them all up! If this describes your everyday life, then you must be the entrepreneur of your team.
You’re filled with many great ideas—so many, in fact, that they spill over the kettle, onto the table, and across the floor. You try to pick up every single idea, but there are just too many. If you pick up every idea that comes to mind, your team won’t know which ones to focus on.
One thing I’ve learned from making popcorn is that more isn’t necessarily better.
New ideas come and go too quickly. One minute you’re picking up a kernel, and next thing you know, you’re dropping it to pick up a different one. Imagine how confusing that must be for the team! They pour time and energy into an idea, only to abandon it the next day.
Stop exhausting your team by chasing after every single idea! Pick up a handful, then put them in a bowl. Pour a little salt and butter on those ideas. Nurture them. The ideas you invest in taste the most delicious.
