Disconnect To Reconnect: Reclaim Thanksgiving
Have you ever shared a meal with someone, and they were on their phone the entire time? We’ve all experienced this at least once. It’s frustrating when people just can’t seem to put down their phones . . . even at a holiday dinner!
Get this: a recent study revealed that about 61 percent of people use their phones to avoid talking to people at holiday gatherings. And, whether it’s a holiday or not, the average person picks up their phone 144 times per DAY!
Don’t be part of a statistic. Disconnect from your phone to reconnect with the people you love.
This week, when the whole family is gathered for Thanksgiving, I encourage you to leave your phone in the other room. Ask your niece how school is going, or tell your in-laws about that summer trip you took. Your phone has already replaced your watch, computer, TV and alarm clock; don’t let it replace your family.
If anything can convince you to put down the phone, it’s this video. I watched my daughter grow up and go off to college, and I was determined to be present for every second of it.
As Ferris Bueller says, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
