Objectives:

  • Learn the most recent evidence-based guidelines for restorative and non-restorative treatments for carious lesions.
  • Understand how to approach and treat different stages of caries.
  • Review various bioactive materials and understand their use and benefits.
  • Understand factors that increase or decrease composite bond strength.
  • Learn ways to improve the predictability of resin bonding to various substrates.

Course Description:

What are the different tools in our dental toolkit to approach and treat the carious lesions that we see clinically and radiographically on a daily basis? Recent research shines light on this question as well as the global shift to preserve healthy tooth structure, and it is becoming increasingly clear that understanding how caries is a multifactorial disease underscores how treatment is often not as simple as a "one size fits all" solution.

In this presentation, we will review the most recent evidence-based guidelines for restorative and non-restorative treatments for carious lesions, discuss how to approach different stages of caries with respect to when to restore versus remineralize, various remineralization techniques and bioactive materials, and different factors influencing composite bonding to different substrates.
